Newsletter June 2014
Hello there!
I just love the loooong stretch in the evenings at the moment and we certainly have had some beautiful days over the last few weeks. And with the Summer Solstice approaching I’ve really been noticing the light and the brightness in nature.
Solstice is derived from Latin “Sol” meaning Sun, but I love the fact that it contains the same sound vibration as the word “Soul”. Just like the Sun is the brightest star in our Solar system and sends us light during the day, your Soul sends you light. Listening to our Soul, Inner guidance or Intuition is like asking the light of your being to show you the way forward, shining some light on the matter. Spending time listening to your soul, to the great inner silence of your being will help you acknowledge your authentic self and to live more from your True Nature.
In fact your Soul light is your gift to this world and to all humanity. And if your light is hidden, we are missing out! Missing out on you!! All of us have specific gifts, talents, passions that make us who we are, and we need to express those in order to truly express ourselves in the world.
Don’t know what these wonderful talents, gifts and passions are? Well, let me ask you this… Have you ever done something that makes you feel alive?! where you felt afterwards – even just for a brief moment, before the critic sets in – HAPPY and connected and energized? That is a good place to start and do more of that!
That feeling of freedom, happiness, energy and connectedness is your soul expanding! So the more you do things that expand who you are, the more your light will get a chance to shine! <3
Some might find it difficult to shine their light, for many different reasons or your light was never cultivated or encouraged. But I have good news! Your light – even if just a spark – can grow and become stronger and brighter by doing things that make you feel ALIVE!
Now, just as on the brightest of days the light highlights objects which can cast a shadow… and yes! Shadow can teach us a lot about lessons to learn, relationships to heal and obstacles to overcome. And by embracing your light, I am not suggesting that you ignore the shadow or shadow self. By embracing your light, you can actually see the shadows a lot clearer, and our shadow side can be an honest and profound teacher – if we are open to the teachings it brings. Read more about the Shadow Self here.
Regenerate your Light
Spend time in nature
The next time you go out for a walk, make sure you go with intent of absorbing light. If you are walking among the trees, on the beach or have space to lie down on the grass, imagine yourself absorbing the energy and light that is within the earth and that the earth is sharing this with you.
During the day go and stand outside and feel the warmth of the sun bathing you in light or on a full moon evening let the moon and the stars share their light with you, imagine absorbing this gentle and nurturing light.
Spend time in community
It is so important to spend time with like-minded people and in nurturing communities where we can be ourselves and make our lights shine even brighter! In the Bible (Matthew 18:20) Jesus says “When 2 or 3 are gathered in my name, I am among you.” In other words, when we gather our light, our spiritual energies together as a collective something wonderful happens. Just like a candle is bright and can cast light by itself, many candles together can cast a much brighter light. And also candles that have been snuffed, can be re-ignited. Talking about being in community… if you would like to join in on a Summer Solstice Celebration on the 21st June 2014, find details here
Make time to meditate and journey
There are many guided meditations that you can follow to connect to your inner light and to recharge and expand your energy. If you practice shamanic journeying you can take a journey with the intention of connecting your inner light and the way to express this in the world. Regular meditative practice can give us a great sense of connectedness and expansion. Why not start a daily practice for just 15minutes a day.
Do what gives you joy
Whether it is painting, writing, singing, being out in nature, organising, cleaning your kitchen… Whatever floats your boat! As long as you do it for you and as long as it gives you JOY! By doing things that you love to do, you expand your soul and your light! So make sure you make some time in your day or even just once a week to do something that you love and gives you joy!
Sing your favourite song
Singing from your heart is probably one of the most authentic expressions of your soul. 🙂 What is your soul song? or if I were to ask you what song did you often sing as a child, that made you feel joy what will it be? Just become quiet for a while and put your hand on your heart centre and focus your attention on your heart, then let the song come up. You might be surprised what it could be! 🙂 And if you cannot find one or don’t think you have one, you can always borrow this one…. “This little light of mine… Im gonna let it shine! ” See the wonderful rendition by the Soweto Gospel Choir in the youtube video below.
May you have a light-filled day and may you find many ways to expand your light and your True Nature! We (the earth and all her children) needs you!

Newsletter May 2014
Greetings fellow soul traveller!
Well there has been so much on my mind lately! It feels like my brain and my heart are just overflowing with ideas and things I want to write about and new projects that I want to take on, and new groups I want to start and and and… AND there is still only 24 hours in a day…
But what is really on my heart to write about this month is about our legacy that we leave behind, when it is our time to leave this life and travel onwards to the next phase of our glorious life.
On the 9th of April I got word that my granny (who I am named after) has passed on at the
beautiful age of 94. She was (is) a formidable woman and her passing was swift, gentle and full of grace – a testament to the life she lived. While my godmother sang Psalm 23 – one of her favourite hymns – to her, she slipped into the other world, into the arms of her God and loved ones waiting on the other side.
As part of the preparations for the funeral, a dear cousin of mine – who helped tremendously with the taking care of granny in her last few years – asked that all children, grandchildren and great grandchildren write something about what they remember about our grandmother. This was then thoughtfully placed in the booklet prepared for her funeral. It was so moving to read about all the things that everyone remembers and that it is these things that make my granny who she was and remain to be in all of our hearts. There was nothing written about what she owned, what designer clothes she wore, how often and with who she had her hair done, what car they drove, where and what size house she lived in.
Everything that was written was about her deep faith, her generosity, things she did, things she said, things people learned from her and how she made people feel. From the pens of all the family that loved her, you could get a sense of the woman she was, a loving, caring, faithful woman who always served her family, community and most importantly – God. In the many paragraphs the outpouring of love was palpable, and to the very last – even on those pages – she united people and brought people together in love, And the amount of love she gave, everyone felt and returned to her, also on her last journey.
So in a small town in South Africa, in the hill-top graveyard with a beautiful view of the mountains, dunes and ocean we gave her body back to the earth and placed roses on her coffin and paid homage to our beloved “Ouma Dassie” [ohma dussy]. Her spirit and her legacy lives on in each of us, in the kindness she bestowed, the love she gave, the endless prayers she prayed for us all, and all the time she spent on her knees praying and deepening her relationship with God. Her memory is strong within me and I treasure that, and that I could have been part of her life and she part of mine. My heart feels wide open and my spirit softens when I think of her. May you walk in beauty Ouma Dassie.
I am sure I will continue to learn from my granny – from her legacy. And that is what has been on my mind… What legacy am I creating? When my time comes… what would people write about me? If anything… Once again she has spurred me on…. to live my one, wild and precious life and bring my True Nature into the world and share it with all that care to listen and see and feel. That is what people remember about my grandmother, her True Nature.. and I love that she had the courage to be true to herself. Her legacy is her True Nature and may I have the courage to live mine always…
